What is ONVIF?
ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is an industry standard protocol that 95% of IP CCTV products will use. It was created so IP CCTV products could talk to each other from different manufacturers. ONVIF is an organisation that was started in 2008 by Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems and Sony.
All of our IP products are ONVIF compatible and will work with other systems. When using other manufacturers products, you have to take into consideration that all the features on one system using the same IP cameras and same NVR, might not necessarily work on another system using two different manufacturers IP cameras and NVRs. Below are a few features Analytics, Motion, H.265, OSD, Certain PTZ Controls.
- Flexibility – Means that you can purchase different equipment from different manufacturers and they will work with each other as long as they are ONVIF compatible. Have the ability to add to an existing IP system as long as they are ONVIF compatible.
- Future-proof – As ONVIF is a standard protocol and is widely used in the CCTV industry, this means that when upgrading a CCTV system in the future, you will be able to use ONVIF compatible products and not have the problem of only having to install one certain manufacturers product.
- Quality – To be accredited as ONVIF compliant, manufacturers have to go through vigorous checks to comply with ONVIF standards. When the product has passed all of its checks, you can guarantee that the quality of the products are up to a high standard.
